The Law & Regulation Intellectual Property Team covers patent, trademark, trade secret and copyright matters, including counseling and prosecution. The team also responds to and may bring external litigation in these areas. The small team, located in Northbrook, IL, interacts with outside entities, outside counsel, and clients across the organization to capture, protect and utilize intellectual property in support of Allstate’s business strategies. The Intellectual Property Team is part of the Allstate Department of Law and Regulation, which is among the five largest corporate law departments in America. The Department serves as the principal law firm for The Allstate Corporation.       Position Summary The intellectual property paralegal supports the broad work of the Intellectual Property Team, including:  
•      .   Litigation support 
•      .   Competitive intelligence research 
•      .   Trademark registration/clearing support 
•      .   Patent/trademark portfolio maintenance including tracking, calendaring, watches, and assignments 
•      .   Assisting with the preparation, filing and prosecution of US and foreign patents 
•      .   Other general assistance to support the team’s activities   Performs legal duties under the ultimate direction and supervision of an attorney.        Key Responsibilities   
•       .  Performs work under relatively limited direct supervision by attorney proportionate to experience level.   
•       .  Is highly efficient and effective in legal research and possesses a high degree of competency in on-line research tools.  
•       .  Is able to organize documents for attorney and company use, and to coordinate with various functions within the Company to respond to inquiries, licensing requests, law department referrals, business transactions, etc.   
•       .  Makes fine distinctions among and between matters and can communicate effectively (both orally and in written fashion) about those distinctions.   
•       .  May lead work and work groups from time to time.   
•       .  Understands company operations and is able to collaborate with other functional areas of the Company to respond to requests, inquiries, transaction needs, etc.   
•       .  Probes and gathers information and makes judgments and/or recommendations as appropriate. 
•       .  Explains processes, requirements, and timelines related to work. 
•       .  Refers questions to appropriate inside or outside resource as appropriate and sets clear expectations around roles and responsibilities of all involved parties for the remainder of matter/issue.

•       .  10+ years experience with patent and trademark matters including supporting patent and trademark prosecution</p> <p>
•       .  A Paralegal Certificate from an ABA-approved certificate program</p> <p>
•       .  Solid understanding of patent and trademark process and forms</p> <p>
•       .  Excellent organization, prioritization, and research skills </p> <p>
•       .  Strong interpersonal and computer skills </p> <p>
•       .  Ability to perform complex, advanced, confidential administrative and quasi-legal duties, often with little supervision and under pressure</p> <p>
